Second regional multi-stakeholder cooperation platform for migrant and refugee integration in Corrèze

The regional platform is set up in the framework of the Share SIRA project, our European project co-funded by the European Union’s Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund, which aims at strengthening and expanding the social orientation and overall integration of newcomers in rural territories in Europe. Besides Corrèze, regional multi-stakeholder cooperation platforms have also been set up in 9 other rural regions in Europe. Click here to find out more about these regions!

On 23 September 2021, Entraide Pierre Valdo, in cooperation with ICMC Europe (lead of the Share Network), organized the second roundtable of the  regional multi-stakeholder cooperation platform  for migrant and refugee integration in the department of Corrèze, France.

12 stakeholders joined the online event to continue the conversation started by the first roundtable and explore further the existing good practices in the field of migrant and refugee inclusion while discussing the upcoming regional factfiles, regional trainings, and pilot actions in the framework of the Share SIRA project.

Two members of the platform shared their experience in working on integration in rural areas in Corrèze. The different interventions enabled participants to know more about existing and on-going initiatives in the region. Participants saw the diversity of action and projects that can contribute to the integration of newcomers in rural areas.

First, the coordinator of Chemins Singuliers presented the resettlement program, how her organization has been articulating resettlement in rural areas and the mobilization of volunteers around refugees. Their experience shows that a balanced and well-defined cooperation between the refugees, the volunteers, the specialized organization, and local authorities can create an efficient path towards integration.

The second intervention was by MOSAIK, an association working on occupational integration with a focus on language courses and rural activities. Their program in partnership with Mission Locale specifically targets teenagers and young adults (16-25). The two interventions were complementary because young resettled refugees accompanied by Chemins Singuliers were orientated to MOSAIK to follow the program of language classes and vocational orientation. The progress made in terms of acquisition of language and social integration are significant. It also led to more autonomy for the young people targeted.

The roundtable was also the opportunity to introduce Institut Don Bosco, the winner of the call for proposal in Corrèze. Their pilot action aims to offer a mentoring program to unaccompanied minors with a focus on access to sport and culture.

The stakeholders involved in the regional platforms will gather on two more occasions over the course of 2021/2022. You can stay updated on all the activities in Corrèze by visiting the regional webpage.
