Expand Legal and Safe Complementary Pathways to Respond to International Protection Needs

ICMC Europe today joined 15 other civil society organisations and networks to call for an expansion of legal and safe complementary pathways in response to international protection needs

The call is made in the context of the forthcoming adoption of the Global Compact on Refugees by the end of 2018 which, amongst other solutions, calls for a multi-stakeholder approach to involve a wide range of partners and stakeholders in expanding access to resettlement in third countries and other complementary pathways. The 16 signatories call on states to expand access and facilitate procedures to implement complementary pathways as a fourth durable solution. Civil society - NGOs, universities, citizens, refugee communities, and private business - have already proved that new actors are willing and capable of addressing specific protection needs, and of complementing the international protection framework.
