The Union of Exiled Students in France: an association created by exiled students for exiled students

Interview with Rudi Osman, Founder of Union des Etudiants Exilées

At the Universities as Sponsors Conference in Bologna, March 2022, Share interviewed the founder of the Union of Exiled Students (UEE) in France.

As Rudi explains, they chose the term exiled to include everyone who has arrived in the country despite of their legal status.

The association helps exiled students access the higher education in France by:

- providing relevant information and psychological support,

- advocating for changing the conditions of the exiled students at universities

- giving more visibility to the experience of refugee students

Rudi underlines the necessity of “not only bringing these students at the university, but also of focusing on how the conditions of their reception should be”.

Moreover, Rudi draws attention to the importance of giving exiled students the opportunity to share their point of view, their experiences and the challenges they are facing.
